Sexual Dysfunction

Not all couples enjoy a satisfactory sexual life. It could be that either partner or both experience difficulty during any stage of a normal sexual activity – like desire, arousal or orgasm. This difficulty is referred as sexual dysfunction or sexual malfunction. Research reveals that around 45% of women and 31% in men experience this. And sexual dysfunction is a key reason causing infertility in both women and men.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) and ejaculatory dysfunction are the most common types of sexual dysfunction in men.

ED is characterized by the inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual performance. For some men, it becomes extremely difficult to climax posing more problems for couples trying to conceive. Also known as ejaculatory incompetence or retarded ejaculation, it is exactly the opposite of premature ejaculation.

Sexual dysfunction can be attributed to medical and psychological problems. Medical problems include high blood pressure, diabetes, past medical and past surgical history; birth defects with the urinary bladder, hormonal problems, nerve diseases, accidents or injury, infections.
