Laser Assisted hatching (LAH) is a micromanipulation procedure in which a hole is made with a harmless laser method in the zona pellucida, the outer embryo shell. This is done before embryo transfer to help with the attachment of the embryo to the uterine lining. It is used to improve live birth rates. Increased Implantation Rates: Helps in embryo attachment to the uterine lining. Precision: Using a laser gives control and precision over the attachment process, minimizing the risk of embryo damage. High chances of success for older women: Increases the chances of success and is beneficial for older women, especially for those with previously failed IVF cycles, or embryos with a thickened zona pellucida.
Laser Assisted Hatching is used along with IVF to increase the chances of embryo implantation in couples with recurrent IVF failure, cases where embryos have thicker zona pellucida (outer covering of the egg), women with advanced maternal age, embryos produced from In-Vitro Maturation (IVM), and in frozen embryo transfers.
