Breaking Barriers: A Landmark Ivf Success In A Laron Syndrome Patient

For a woman with Laron Syndrome, the dream of motherhood seemed impossible. With only 350 diagnosed cases worldwide and just three reported pregnancies in medical literature, there was little precedent for success. When a 32-year-old woman from Vadodara walked into Oasis Fertility, she wasn’t just looking for a fertility treatment but also for a hope. Unlike conventional cases, this case came with unique challenges. While she had regular menstrual cycles and a normal ovarian reserve, her small uterine size was a major obstacle to implantation. Additionally, her husband had a history of bilateral cryptorchidism and azoospermia, needing a donor sperm for conception.

A detailed evaluation by Dr. Sushma Baxi at Oasis Fertility, Vadodara revealed key insights: her FSH was 10.3 mIU/ml, AMH was 1.4 ng/ml, and prolactin was 15 ng/ml—indicating a reasonable ovarian reserve. However, an ultrasound scan confirmed that her uterus measured only 4.2 cm × 1.9 cm × 1.7 cm, raising concerns. Meanwhile, her husband’s past surgeries for germ cell tumors and resulting azoospermia further complicating the issue. After two failed cycles of intrauterine insemination (IUI) with donor, advanced treatment was opted. They proceeded with in vitro fertilization (IVF) using an antagonist protocol for ovarian stimulation —seven oocytes were retrieved, six of which were mature. Fertilization was done with donor sperm via intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) - two high-quality embryos were made and cryopreserved. Given her small uterus, multiple cycles of HRT were advised to increase her uterus size. Finally, after 4-5 months the embryo transfer was done. That incorporated laser-assisted hatching and embryo glue to enhance implantation potential. The approach paid off—a pregnancy was confirmed. Her pregnancy progressed smoothly, and at 38 weeks, she delivered a healthy baby girl weighing 2.08 kg through an elective lower-segment cesarean section (LSCS), marking a historic milestone in fertility care for Laron Syndrome patients. This is evidence to success of personalized fertility care and advanced reproductive medicine.
