Getting Ready For The IVF Procedure

Getting Ready For The IVF Procedure

In the year 1978, the birth of Louise Brown earmarked the first successful pregnancy realized through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Now, IVF is one of the most successful, and equally the most effective fertility treatment opportunities available for sub-fertile couples. In vitro fertilization helps these couples overcome many difficulties while trying to conceive a baby.  The IVF method breaks down the course of reproduction into several stages that can easily facilitate conception. Both the partners need to undergo extensive medical screening to ascertain which issues are stopping them from harboring pregnancy and how they can prepare for their IVF treatment. Before initiating the series of procedures at the Oasis center, the IVF specialists and the fertility experts will even give special instructions for advanced preparation that will help enhance the success rate of one’s fertility treatment.

Prerequisite Screening

If both the partners had trouble in the past while trying to conceive for more than a year, they are the ideal couple to go for in vitro fertilization. If you and your partner had trouble conceiving for over a year, you may be the ideal candidates for in vitro fertilization. Before initiating the cycle, both the partners will have to go through screening to decide the quality and quantity of each of the partner’s sperm and eggs.  Depending on their individual needs, IVF can combine the use of both the partners’ eggs and sperm, or donor egg and donor sperm. If the mother cannot bear the fetus to term, then a surrogate vehicle may be needed. Screening may involve semen analysis, ovarian supply testing, transmissible disease screening, and a uterine cavity exam, along with other necessary examinations.

Preparing for IVF

Beginning of the IVF cycle comprises of hormones and medications to revive the production of several eggs. Depending on the condition of one’s physical health, your fertility specialist may advocate specific workouts and food changes to raise the probability of fully grown egg production. Before making up one’s mind for the procedure, both the partners must try to have practical estimations about the results, and attempt to talk over valuable questions, such as;

How to handle multiple pregnancies, in case if it happens?

If needed, how best can one make use of sperm, donor eggs, and a surrogate?

What can one do with more embryos? (More eggs can be frozen and saved for future use.)

Will the couple be emotionally composed, in case the procedure has not met the expectations or in other words if it is not successful?

The IVF Procedure

The IVF is characterized by a four-step operation which requires developing mature eggs in a laboratory setting to fertility and then moving the embryo(s) into the mother’s uterus. Each of the four steps is discussed in a detailed manner:

Ovarian Stimulation and Monitoring

With the help of diverse medications, protecting a follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs, and monitor their development through ultrasound imaging and blood tests.

Egg Retrieval

Once the eggs have been matured, we would recover them from each follicle using a needle.

Fertilization

The male semen is gathered and processed, and the healthiest and most mobile sperms are planted into the eggs in the laboratory.

Embryo Transfer

With the help of ultrasound guidance, the fertilized embryos, or eggs, can be shifted into the uterus, where the mother can carry the fetus to term.
